How to Submit Content
Lyle Schofield, Corresponding Secretary
For those that wish to submit content to this web site, the following guidelines should be used to make it easy to post articles.
First, the primary method to submit content is in Email. It can be in-line in the message, or as a message attachment. The article will be cut and pasted into a web site document, with editing as needed.
For those that are a little more HTML literate, it would greatly speed the cut and paste process to receive the article as well formed HTML. Please keep in mind that some programs are better at creating HTML than others. While you are free to use any editor you choose, some programs add extra markup that needs to be stripped out. Microsoft Word's "Save as HTML" function is a particular tool to avoid.
The MCCF web site uses cascading style sheets to control layout. There are minimal definitions of classes to make things simpler for different browsers. You should use the following class identifiers with <p> and <div> tags:
"articleTitle" for the top line of the article.
"byLine" for the author of the article.
"footnote" for small annotations and references at the bottom.
"photoCaption" for a title for any attached images.
"sidebar" for boxed text on the right hand side.
An example of these elements can be found here.
The <table> tag should be avoided, as some browsers seem to have problems with this tag and CSS definitions. If you must present a table, please do not include the WIDTH modifier.
Any inline images will be placed in a folder /images, prefaced with an acronym for the committee.
Please avoid using bullet points at this time (the <ol> and <li> tags).
Italics should be indicated with the <em> tag and bolding should be indicated with the <strong> tag. The <font> tag should never be used as it conflicts with CSS recommendations as well as Section 508 accessibility guidelines. We want people to be able to control the size of fonts with their browsers, and not lock in specific point sizes.
